I have seen these Theo DVDs many places lately and have been curious about what they were like. However, I had never purchased them because I had not talked to anyone who had seen them. I didn’t want to take a chance on the DVDs being theologically unsound, so I left them on the shelf. A month ago, I was given the chance to view one for myself. I waited to watch it with my kids the first time because I wanted to know what they were being taught in these DVDs.
God’s Love Home Edition focused on three different lessons with each lesson being around 9 minutes long. Lesson one teaches on Saving Faith. Lesson two teaches about loving obedience and Lesson three teaches about forgiveness.
When I picked up the DVD, I was expecting these to just be something for my kids to watch. I was surprised that it was so much more. The Home Edition also gives you a 3 week family Bible Study. I was not expecting Scripture References, Discussion Questions, Family Activities, and Nightly Devotionals. Since I have little ones, I thought this was an excellent way to do Family Worship time once a week. I love any DVD that allows us to go deeper and talk about heart issues.
As for my children, they really enjoyed Theo. They are 7, 5, and 1. I expected my 7 and 5 year-old to watch it, but it was even enough for my 1-year-old to climb into my lap and sit still for the first lesson. Afterwards, I asked their opinion on it and my daughter enthusiastically said “I like it!” She even liked watching the Bonus features where it discussed why Theo was made and the hopes for these movies to introduce children to Christ and as they say “the key aspects in the Christian faith.”
