I’m slow to the adult coloring world. It wasn’t that I thought it wasn’t fun. I just have a hard time sitting still and allowing myself the time it takes to color. Being a musician, though, I was excited to see art being so widely accepted by churches as a form of worship. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
It wasn’t because I was afraid of writing in my Bible. It was because I couldn’t create those beautiful pages that I’d still enjoy 5 years later. I was overwhelmed and frustrated that I couldn’t be as creative and well, perfect. So I admired the pages of others from afar, but longing to join in.
When I got this Bible, I was actually drawn to it because it was a notetaking Bible. Being someone who loves words and loves to write, it was right up my alley. It has the perfect amount of space, lined and unlined, to take notes from sermons, Bible studies, etc. The cover is nice and is unlike anything I’ve seen. It’s a good mix between the soft and hard covers.
But there was more. Inside each page there is art. it is in light gray ink so that I can draw over it and color it in my colors. Finally, it can be exactly what I want and I don’t have to worry about it not being perfect! I was so excited! I decided to start coloring in 1 Peter because I was going to be teaching it in the fall. I love that now I am able to join in worshipping God through the beautiful art and colors and creativity He made and gave to us. I can be an active participant instead of observing.
I have a friend who gave this Bible to her mother-in-law. She’s going through a difficult time right now and is spending a lot of time in the hospital waiting rooms. This is a wonderful gift idea that will encourage and uplift those who open it, read it, and color it.
I used the Staedtler pens on it, and it didn’t even bleed through. I will probably experiment with coloring pencils soon, but I didn’t know if would smudge over time or not.
You pro-Bible coloring artists, let me know what tools you have found to work well in your artwork. I’d love to expand my collection now that I’m hooked.
I received this Bible free from Lifeway and B&H Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
