Amy Clipston has carved out her niche in Amish fiction. The Courtship Basket is Book 2 in the Amish Heirloom series. The first book in the series is The Forgotten Recipe, followed by The Courtship Basket. Never fear that you have to wait a year for the next book in the series to come out. It actually releases in November, just in time to buy as a gift to yourself while you are Christmas shopping.
I appreciated that this book is one that moves along and hooks the reader from the very first pages. The characters are loveable and real. They go through a difficult time just to come out on the other side complete with scars. I absolutely loved the fact that the book focuses on learning disabilities in Amish children. I think that is what endeared me to the series even more because I haven’t read a book in the Amish fiction genre that touches on this issue.
Rachael and Mike are both strong characters in different ways. Mike works hard and has a full plate with all of the people he has to take care of, on top of his daily chores. Rachel is a hard worker who has to learn how to trust again. In my opinion, I think Rachel kept herself busy so she didn’t have to think about the heartache.
On a side note, I absolutely love the covers of the books in this series. They are beautifully done and I really enjoyed looking at it. In fact, I sped up reading a different one simply because I wanted to read the one with the pretty cover!
I received this book free from Zondervan Publishers and Booklook Bloggers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
