Can I just say that my southern self absolutely loved Giddy Up, Eunice: (Because Women Need Each Other) and the honesty that Sophie Hudson shared throughout the pages of this book. I, like Sophie, have the passion for women to both mentor others and to be mentored. I long for older women to willingly pour themselves into my life and I long to pour my life into others. We definitely need each other and I’m so glad that this book was written.
Sophie Hudson is full of humor and does a wonderful job revealing her fun personality. I’m pretty certain I’d be in stitches if I actually met her. My favorite section had to be the “GET OFF MY LAWN!” part. I laughed, but was also so convicted. Her love for younger women and her love for older women is so obvious. It is very clear to the reader that this is her passion and that it’s not fake in her life. She’s living this out.
I relished her stories going back into her childhood and the stories about her grandparents. The sink situation had me laughing as I was envisioning the whole scenario. I hope she truly does get that sink put into her house one day! What a sweet, sweet memory of her grandmother. I felt like I was walking along on that property with her.
My heart went out to her and her family as she shared the story of her mother. Her mother seemed like such an amazing woman. I won’t lie…there were times I wanted her mother to come visit me. My closets could desperately use her! However, my heart simply broke at the small changes Sophie began to notice and the new journey they are walking. I’ve walked the cancer journey with my grandfather and new journeys are incredibly hard, but also a privilege to walk alongside someone.
Giddy Up, Eunice: (Because Women Need Each Other) is a book that I think women of all ages need to read. I could easily see women in church reading this book together as a challenge to each other to get involved with one another, to love one another, and to come alongside one another. It’s a book that is so encouraging and leaves the reader challenged to mentor and to look for a mentor in a completely new way.
I received this book free from Lifeway Resources and B & H Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
